As we enter a new year, one prominent question that may be on your mind is, “Will home values in 2024 keep going up?”
You might be asking this question because you are in the market to buy a new home. Or, you might already own your own home, and be wondering if your investment will gain in value this year.
Home values are likely to keep rising through 2024.
As explained here, “A panel of housing experts expects annual national home price growth of 2.4% in 2024 and 2.7% in 2025, according to the Q4 2023 Fannie Mae (OTCQB: FNMA) Home Price Expectations Survey (HPES), produced in partnership with Pulsenomics, LLC.”
If you continue reading on in that post, you will notice that based on previous years’ data, that estimated 2.4% for 2024 and 2.7% for 2025 may be conservative. The post explains, “Panel-wide, the average expected home price growth rate for 2023 jumped to 5.9%, which is a significant increase from the 3.3% level recorded in the previous survey conducted by Pulsenomics.”
So, we may very well see home values climb more than 2.4% over the course of 2024—perhaps substantially more.
What Does This Mean for You?
In general, rising home values in 2024 is good news for a couple of reasons:
- If you own your own home, its value will keep increasing, bringing you a nice return on your investment.
- If you buy a home this year, your investment should immediately start gaining more value.
The potential downside of rising home values, however, is that it means that the longer you wait to buy a home in 2024, the more expensive it may be, at least with respect to the price of the home.
For that reason, you may want to take the next steps to purchase a home if you are in the right financial position to do so, rather than waiting too long.
